Truly Julie…no really…TRULY JULIE!

Truly Julie without an ounce of makeup.              Truly Julie with lots of makeup!

Many of you have reached out to me over the years with the most generous compliments. I gotta be honest though…what you see of me on TV is not really me. It’s me with a lot of makeup. I made a resolution this year to be dedicated to the truth. So…here I am…baring my makeup-less face (as if you couldn’t tell..the left picture). Yes…I have bags under my eyes…sunspots on my skin…what else…oh! A nice zit forming on the side of my nose. Awesome. The picture on the right was taken in the exact same spot after 20 minutes of piling on concealer, foundation, eye shadow and liner, blush, bronzer, highlighter, and gloss. And in both pictures (though, hard to see) some scattered gray hairs. I figure we all get old…so why not try to focus more on the things that only get better with time. Smart never gets old. Funny always stays fresh. Cuteness and Kindess never gets stale. I’m quite happy to admit that I’m perfectly imperfect! Truth…always timeless.

Hoping to look Flossy for a Glossy!

I’ve been part of some pretty cool magazine shoots throughout the years. From the high fashion W Magazine to Lucky to Time Out New York, etc., the glossy pages have been good to me. And it looks like the adventure will continue…I’ll be featured in Cosmo Korea’s September issue! Yes…SEPTEMBER issue. Fashion people…you know the weight of a September issue…literally and figuratively (THANK YOU COSMO!). My photo shoot is just 2 weeks away and we’ve not chosen a NYC location yet! Would love to hear your suggestions on twitter (@JulieChang) or better yet SEE your ideas on instagram (@TrulyJulieChang). Till then…”Blue Steel”!

Ahoy! Great Captain’s Island!

Truly Julie leaping at the chance to visit a semi-private island! This is our campaign to bring back those cheesy Mentos commercials from the 90′s. Mentos the freshmaker! Kidding! Though…it could apply:) Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Great Captain’s Island in Connecticut. It’s a hop and a skip of a boat ride from Greenwich (10-15mins)…but not gonna lie…it’s a bit of an exclusive place. You have to be a Greenwich resident…or a guest of one (Thanks Dan and Sarah!). So there you go…a reason to start befriending those Stepford Wives (Sarah…you are anything but). But with this exclusivity…you get the perks of a very quiet, clean, quaint island. And since it’s free to dream…I liked checking out the glorious mansions with the impossibly well manicured lawns en route to the island. Now if I can only figure out how to get invited to one of Martha Stewart’s barbecues. Should’ve mentioned it to her here. I wish each and everyone of you a splendid summer!

Rock the Streets of NYC!

Truly Julie on E. 7th St. Look familiar? Very famous album cover!I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Every inch of NYC is gold! Maybe for this post we’ll say… gold records. Heck…platinum! The walking tour Rock Junket is one of the
best ways to discover the wealth of rock history throughout this glorious city. Wanna know where Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin first sold out shows (tickets were $4 then!!)? What shoebox apartment did Madonna live in before she was…well…Madonna? Pinn is your guy to answer the aforementioned…and perhaps…any rock question! He’s a human encyclopedia (for those of you too young to know what an encyclopedia is…it’s Google on paper) for any rock facts. In fact, he looks like a rock star with his bleach blond hair. My Rock Junket tour was in the East Village…and I tell ya what…I’ll never walk down those streets quite the same again. It’s just amazing the music legends that mingled in this 4 block radius. I hear the West Village Rock Junket tour is pretty awesome, too…with all the Bob Dylan sites. So New Yorkers…do yourself a favor and get to REALLY know your city…and visitors…find out why this city REALLY ROCKS. I leave you with these famous words by Jimi Hendrix: Rock is so much fun. That’s what it’s all about – filling up the chest cavities and empty kneecaps and elbows.
Check out the picture gallery below. No captions as to not spoil your tour:)
