Confetti…Crystals…Chang! Let’s go 2012!

Truly Julie in Times Square…the biggest and one of the longest running New Year’s Eve countdown spots! Fashion Front: Jill Stuart dress, Temperley London jacket, Hat from Tokyo, Reiss vest, Rag & Bone string mittens, and Alice & Olivia boots.

In 22 hours from now…all eyes will be on this podium button…perhaps the most famous button in the world. It’s a much smaller replica of the Waterford Times Square New Year’s Eve Crystal Ball. This is the very button that will be pushed by Mayor Bloomberg and Lady Gaga at the stroke of midnight. The Times Square ball drop tradition began in 1907…though…I think the first ball was made out of brass…and certainly not as blinged out as the Waterford crystal ball. That thing is major. It’s made of 2,688 pristinely cut crystal triangle panels. The nice folks at Waterford loaned me this one…which is a 2002 panel that commemorates 9/11 victims. This year’s triangles have the theme “Let There be Friendship”. My favorite feature about the NYE’s ball…though…is that because

it uses energy efficient LED lights…the 12 foot radius ball that weighs 1 ton…uses about the same energy as a toaster. Now that brightens me up! Oh..and now there’s a way for you to have your resolution shower down on the Crossroads of America. You can submit your resolution online all the way up to midday Dec 31st…and they will shred it into confetti and sprinkle it on 1 million plus revelers! Catch my coverage on the 1 ton of confetti that will jazz up the NYC skies! It’s the 3rd clip on the link. I wish each and every one of you lots of laughter, love and light in the new year. My resolution: Guard my inner light with truth…so I can give out light. I’ve been told throughout my life that my best quality is my energy…which I consider is my inner light peeking through. I think any type of dishonesty can dim or even cast a shadow on this light of mine…so like I said…I intend to guard quiet vigorously. I hope you’ll share your wishes and hopes with me here!

American Idol Season 10 Grand Finale!

Truly Julie with Idol runner-up, Lauren Alaina, and Idol winner, Scotty McCreery     Crowning moment: confetti pours as 17 year old, Scotty McCreery, becomes the new American Idol!
Haley Reinhart with that Janis-Joplin-esque voice came in third.True behind-the-scenes moment. Truly Julie inside the makeshift Idol tent typing up her script at 1AM PST. It may be LA but it’s really cold at that early hour. Every May, I know there will be a week where I sleep a total of 8 hours in 4 days.  It’s called: American Idol Season Finale! Season 10 of Idol was truly a big surprise. With Simon Cowell gone…and Season 9 being somewhat lackluster, many were skeptical that J.Lo and Steven Tyler could turn the tide. Thanks to one of the most talented batches of contestants, Season 10 hit a high note.  Idol remained the top rated primetime show for the 7th consecutive year…not to mention the biggest viewership gain in years. As Judge Randy Jackson told me, “The new Idol remix is off the chain.”

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery opened my eyes to what America is really into: COUNTRY. I really thought only one of them would be in the top two, since my theory was they’d split the “country” votes.  In the end…Haley Reinhart got knocked out, despite her power Janis Joplin-esque voice.  It’s crazy to think that these two were born in ’93 and ’94. I’m so freakin’ old!!  I feel lucky to be able to cover such a huge show….and to witness a grocery store bagger becoming a national sensation, all within 3 months. It’s really a show about the American Dream.  And let’s not forget about the star studded grand finale.  This year’s highlights: Lady Gaga, Bono & The Edge and Beyonce!  I took a very special date to the event: my 11 year old niece, Hana! You can catch my Idol coverage here! (I recommend the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th clips because they include interviews with Lauren and Scotty. I ask them if they’re going to get married!)

Fashion Front: Tibi dress, Lanvin for H&M necklace. All of my dresses for the week of American Idol were rented! Check out RentTheRunway.com. It’s really a great way to get all dolled up without so much investment ($$$, time spent shopping and closet space!). The purple dress you see in the Gallery Pictures below is Temperley London. The print knit dress is by Missoni. Yes, all at RentTheRunway.
