Confetti…Crystals…Chang! Let’s go 2012!

Truly Julie in Times Square…the biggest and one of the longest running New Year’s Eve countdown spots! Fashion Front: Jill Stuart dress, Temperley London jacket, Hat from Tokyo, Reiss vest, Rag & Bone string mittens, and Alice & Olivia boots.

In 22 hours from now…all eyes will be on this podium button…perhaps the most famous button in the world. It’s a much smaller replica of the Waterford Times Square New Year’s Eve Crystal Ball. This is the very button that will be pushed by Mayor Bloomberg and Lady Gaga at the stroke of midnight. The Times Square ball drop tradition began in 1907…though…I think the first ball was made out of brass…and certainly not as blinged out as the Waterford crystal ball. That thing is major. It’s made of 2,688 pristinely cut crystal triangle panels. The nice folks at Waterford loaned me this one…which is a 2002 panel that commemorates 9/11 victims. This year’s triangles have the theme “Let There be Friendship”. My favorite feature about the NYE’s ball…though…is that because

it uses energy efficient LED lights…the 12 foot radius ball that weighs 1 ton…uses about the same energy as a toaster. Now that brightens me up! Oh..and now there’s a way for you to have your resolution shower down on the Crossroads of America. You can submit your resolution online all the way up to midday Dec 31st…and they will shred it into confetti and sprinkle it on 1 million plus revelers! Catch my coverage on the 1 ton of confetti that will jazz up the NYC skies! It’s the 3rd clip on the link. I wish each and every one of you lots of laughter, love and light in the new year. My resolution: Guard my inner light with truth…so I can give out light. I’ve been told throughout my life that my best quality is my energy…which I consider is my inner light peeking through. I think any type of dishonesty can dim or even cast a shadow on this light of mine…so like I said…I intend to guard quiet vigorously. I hope you’ll share your wishes and hopes with me here!

Oscar Winner Charlize Theron Returns to Movies…While Truly Julie Takes on Dog Voice-over??!

You’ll have to watch the clip here to make sense of the title of this post…but it’s true. I give my oscar worthy performance as a pomeranian:) Perhaps I embody a bit of the “Young Adult” movie poster’s slogan: everyone gets old…but not everyone grows up! Like I said…watch the clip (my paw-fect performance is at the end). So…the world premiere of “Young Adult” was a big deal because it marked Charlize Theron’s return to movies. She took 3 years off to unplug…good for her! She looked radiant, statuesque…and might I add that she was wearing a great color:) She looked smokin’ in her orange leather dress…me…well…I was like a growth out of her shin. What I would do for 2 more inches!

Charlize Theron tells Truly Julie that “Young Adult” appealed to her because of the dark yet funny script written by Diablo Cody (who also wrote “Juno”).                                     Fashion Front: Truly Julie wears a Roland Mouret dress, Balenciaga bracelet

And ’tis the season for lots of holiday movie releases! Case in point, I’ve covered 3 premieres in 3 days! Opening this weekend…”The Sitter”…”New Year’s Eve”…and in select cities “Young Adult”. Which one will you go see and why? I look forward to hearing your comments:)

New York Philharmonic in Harmony with Robert Di Nero? Only in Truly Julie’s World:)

If you ever want to start your day in New York in perhaps the most poetic fashion…then…waltz on over to Lincoln Center to catch a New York Philharmonic open rehearsal. It starts at 10AM…and I promise…it will leave you feeling like you’re floating on air for the rest of the day. Lucky for me and my mom…Grammy winning violinist Joshua Bell was performing a Tchaikovsky number (for you super fans: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35) with the Philharmonic. Folks…you must add a Joshua Bell performance to your bucket list. His talent was so powerful…that it felt like all the gravity for the entire Avery Fisher Hall…was being sucked right into the opening of his Violin….leaving a thick stillness that made your ear cling onto every note. And despite his world renowned status…prodigy pedigree…Josh is a really cool, nice guy. I’ve met Josh a few times over the years (charity events, premieres, etc.)…and as a Michigan girl…I love that this big bad city hasn’t tarnished his midwestern charm. Just before this picture was taken a woman ran up to him and said…”I just want to say…I saw you perform here when you were 11. It was amazing.” The first 2 times I met Josh…I never knew what he did…and he never once boasted who he was. For his graciousness, humbleness…and mind blowing talent…encore!

Of course, the classical cadence of my day got a bit more hectic while covering the special screening for “New Year’s Eve.” The cast includes everyone and their mom…and their dog walkers..and their hairdressers…so you can imagine the bustle of this red carpet. Click here to catch my interviews with Sarah Jessica Parker, Zac Effron, Robert Di Nero, Jessica Biel, Gary Marshall and Abigail Breslin. Spellbinding culture…Star studded screening…all in one day! As the NY Post’s Cindy Adams would say…only in New York, kids…only in New York.
