Fashion Week this September was short-lived on my end. Just three days into it, I had to travel to LA to cover the Fox Fall shows. However, in true banzai fashion…pun intended…I packed it in. I hosted a Fashion Night Out Party for Vivienne Tam, attended a celebratory dinner for Rag & Bone and, of course, caught some runway shows.
Vivienne Tam paved the way for so many Asian designers. Her exquisite embroidered pieces and jewel-tone silk dresses are my go-to for any special event. It was an honor to host her Fashion Night Out event at her Soho store.
At the new West Village restaurant Frankie’s 570, we celebrated, yet another, strong collection from the Rag & Bone guys, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright. The two founders hope to be as ubiquitous and iconic as the Ralph Lauren brand one day…I’d say they’re well on their way.
After 7 years of covering Fashion Week, I think it’s safe to say I’ve been to well over 100 runway shows. BUT! I can still count on one hand how many times I’ve sat front row. THANK YOU Vivienne Tam for the VIP seating. You know you’re in a good seat when fashion icon Patricia Fields is sitting by you. Score! And really, who else can rock cornrows and an oversized blazer like this? There’s a reason Sex & The City broke through fashion barriers…Patricia Fields!
I also attended the Jill Stuart Spring/Summer 2012 show. Kourtney and Kim Kardashian are usually the big paparazzi attraction at Jill’s shows…but this season they sent their back-ups…their hubbies! Kris Humphries and Scott Disick seemed to be enjoying the show a little too much. Some of the really short shorts had them chuckling like school boys.
And I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…my favorite part about Fashion Week…is
spending time with my sister Grace Sun (MamaisHaute.com). Plus, seeing the familiar faces that make the event seem like summer camp.
For example…John and Anthony who are the gatekeepers at Lincoln Center are the best! I squeal when I see them…because in the whirlwind of “too much attitude”…they are always wearing a warm smile. And THAT is always in fashion.
