Monkeying Around the Bronx Zoo!

Truly Julie feeding peanut butter to a Kangaroo.

The Bronx Zoo is one of my favorite places in New York City. And my nephew, Odin, is my favorite little dude. So…it only seemed natural I combine the two! Aspiring to be the Super Emo (aunt in Korean)…I gathered up a few of Odin’s friends (and their parents) for a very magical day at the zoo. From this stealth frogmouth that looked so much like a tree bark…to the majestic gorilla…to the most stunning snow leopard…we got to witness wildlife from afar as well as pet them up close!

Hmm…having 3 year-olds pet an alligator (it was just a baby, though!), kangaroo, emu, wallaby, etc…may sound crazy. But! With the amazing Bronx Zoo staff watching over us…there was zero danger…just a mesmerizing excursion that will hopefully imbue in these little ones to love, respect, and preserve our wildlife. Check out the picture gallery below…better yet…head to the Bronx Zoo for a spellbinding experience that’s tried and true! (Also visit the Central Park Zoo for these adorable penguin chicks…watch the video…it will make your day)

Arrrrrrgh! A 160lbs Alligator & My Ninja Reflex

(With Zoo Director Jim Breheny at the Bronx Zoo. My Alligator friend, Orville.)

Check out my close encounter with death! 5 minutes before my live remote at the Bronx Zoo, this 7ft alligator wheeled me in with his tail and snapped at my hand. Of course, all of this happened within nano seconds!  What the alligator didn’t know…is that I have ‘Wendi Murdoch reflexes’ (if you do not get this reference, click here), meaning I dodged her nasty algae green teeth like a ninja. Needless to say, I was a bit shaken up and it took every fiber in me to pet it during the segment.  Catch the segment, where I stay cool as a cucumber: Click here!
